ebooks outsell books for first time – why the future of ebooks is different to music

Posted on January 31, 2010

christmas 2009 – the first day that ebooks outsold real books. its the shape of things to come. with more ebook capable devices being launched and the apple ipad strongly positioned for this market, book publishers should be poised to enter this market and book sellers – looking at what happened to CD stores.

but why wont this end up the same as music?
the book industry is no built around bundling. with music, an artist may have a limited number of hit songs that you like but you had to buy the whole album. when pricing enabled just buying the song, the price was wrong (too low) and became a disincentive.
